In 1992 a fighting videogame called Mortal Kombat was launched, featuring graphics and movements based on real actors and a high level of blood and violence.
This new approach to fighting games caused a total revolution, which in turn gave place to many subsequent titles. A few Mortal Kombat fans decided to create a completely free version of this game using the M.U.G.E.N. gaming engine and including all the characters that have appeared along the Mortal Kombat series.
Mortal Kombat Project features more than 30 characters with all their special movements and the so called "Fatalities". However it's still in beta, so it has some bugs. Regarding graphics, the game includes Mortal Kombat III models, which are considered to be the best of the whole series before going 3D.

MK Project 4.1 is definitely a Mortal Kombat keeper!!! :) Using WinRAR: You can change character names, add characters, add your own MP3 player music, add stages to kick @$$ on, you name it... ThAnX MUGEN! 8-O Very epic!
Oh, and to generalgrievious: You need to download WinRAR to play the game... Wait for download, click Save, open WinRAR, highlight the MKP 4.1 parts by clicking MKP 4.1 once with the let clicker, extract, wait for extraction, click on MKP 4.1 file (twice with left click), open a window called "mkp", and play... ;)
Pros
A variety of MK fighters, adding characters, adding stages, adding MP3 player music, good usability, stability is OK, installation is pretty good, great functioning, awesome appearance...
Cons
Sometimes the program will stop without notice (try not always using the same button as selection), sometimes music will skip...
